A grooming salon hygiene and equipment cleaning checklist

Clean grooming combs, scissors, towels and equipment

A busy grooming salon welcomes many different pets through the same space. A clean table and tidy tools create a good first impression, but hygiene also matters behind the scenes: shared equipment and surfaces can carry contamination between appointments. A clear routine helps the whole team know what needs cleaning, when it needs doing and which products to use.

1. Reset the station between pets

Build cleaning time into each appointment so the next pet arrives at a prepared station. Removing hair and visible dirt comes before disinfection; a quick spray over a dirty surface is not the same as a complete cleaning routine.

  1. Grooming table: Remove loose hair and debris, then clean and disinfect the working surface with a product suitable for the setting. Follow the product’s dilution, contact-time and rinsing instructions before using the table again.
  2. Blades and scissors: Clear trapped hair from the tools used during the appointment. Clean and disinfect them using a method compatible with the equipment and the product instructions, then prepare them for the next groom.
  3. Combs and brushes: Remove all trapped hair before cleaning. If the tools are suitable for an immersion disinfectant, follow its instructions for dilution and contact time, and complete any required rinsing and drying.

2. A closing-time and equipment-care checklist

Use a written schedule for tasks that are easy to overlook during a full day. The frequencies below provide a routine to organise around; equipment instructions and the condition of the area still determine what is needed.

Equipment or areaWhat to checkRoutine
BathsClear hair traps, clean the bath, and disinfect and rinse as directed for the surface and product. At closing, with cleaning between pets as needed
Dryer filtersInspect for accumulated hair and clean the filter using the manufacturer’s method; wash only washable parts.Check regularly; schedule a twice-weekly review
Clipper bladesRemove debris, clean with compatible products and lubricate as the manufacturer directs. At closing and during use as required
Holding areasClean and disinfect the base and other contact surfaces, then leave them ready for the next pet. After every use

3. Make the routine easy to follow

Keep the checklist where the work happens and make responsibility for each task clear. A routine is easier to maintain when there is time for it in the diary and everyone knows which equipment is ready to use.

Clean surroundings support a professional service and help owners feel confident leaving their pets with you. Bring the same consistency to your appointments and pet records so that a well-kept salon is matched by a well-organised working day.
